Great job, Peggy. Please tell me more details about your cold storage. I reviewed a book on different kinds but never got anything started. Did you say that you wrapped the apples individually in newspaper before putting them in storage? Were they apples you grew yourself? Did you store any other variety than the Braeburns?

Also have you been happy with your solar arrangement?

thanks Shirley. the apples were individually wrapped in newspaper and put in the bin. i put up kings and braeburns.(my 2 good producers last year) the kings didn't last as long but i did just use the last of them to cook a crisp so that's pretty good. i suspect i will end up cooking with some of the braeburns but that's ok. ate another one today and it was tasty. the room i kept them in was a small room in my unheated man cave(shed) when the temps got below freezing outside, i made sure to curtain off the small room and kept a 60W light bulb on (occas 2) to keeping the room above freezing.

the solar is good. i'm guessing it will provide about 75%. this year i am considering batteries after finding out they qualify for the 30% tax credit. most people would not consider this a good buy and Dana himself recommended considering generator for grid down. i don't have any projections on payback (what most folks want to know) but consider it a good investment for me in this time and place we find ourselves.
